Findings

A storage study examined honey in flexible pouches with Raman particle identification and separate GC-MS analysis of extractable chemicals.

No numerical product measurement from this source is accepted in this packet. Supports polymer identification and an association with pouch packaging in this experiment. Counts are not adopted because filter-area selection, extrapolation, contamination runs, and batch variation require resolution.

Methods and scope

Honey dilution, warming, peroxide digestion, sodium bromide separation and sequential filtration. Material larger than 74 µm discarded, then 1.2 µm final filters examined by Raman microscopy. Spectra compared against inner PE and outer PET packaging, with ATR-FTIR bulk-film characterization. Some early runs contaminated by peroxide storage container; replacement reagent described. Selected filter areas with differing particle density used for extrapolation, excluding center/edges. GC-MS measures extractable chemicals separately.

What this source can support

Supports polymer identification and an association with pouch packaging in this experiment. Counts are not adopted because filter-area selection, extrapolation, contamination runs, and batch variation require resolution.

No accepted numeric pouch-release rate or mass estimate. Table 1 has contaminated runs and observed versus statistical counts; field selection is not uniform whole-filter enumeration. Greater-than-sieve aggregates occur despite prefiltration; pore size is not validated detection limit. Storage-control and outdoor trends are not universally monotonic. Crystallized honey and sample recovery differed. Cannot extend to all honey packages or treat GC-MS chemicals as particle counts.
